چکیده
This research investigates the stress mechanics of reinforced polyester composites when exposure to a sudden impact force, using experimental and analytical methods based on Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM) test procedures. In this study, distribution around crack tip zone for 14 samples with geometry 210 mm x 150 were investigated. KII intensity factors, critical stress, σC, shear τnt energy, E strength, U determined each specimen. The mode I fracture toughness, KIC was found be 4.97 MPa.m1/2 at 13.53 MPa while II KIIC 1.31 3.71 MPa. effective thickness in range 80-100mm fibre volume fraction, Vf within 0.35-0.50. largely as result bridging arrest mechanisms. mechanism prevented growth direction specimens containing woven roving not propagate along original direction, but change an inclined path till failure exception those soft hard mat which grew increased. During test, stacking sequence played vital role, thereby making resist damage failure, resulted pull-out during fracture. could seen concentrated loading pins smaller level, compared level tip.

Fracture Mechanics of Fiber-Reinforced Composites
Quantitative understanding of the parameters which control composite fracture is imperative to the implementation of fail safe design and inspection of critical load bearing structures. For isotropic materials, fracture is essentially controlled by a single parameter, e.g., the fracture toughness or the stress-intensity factor. This one dimensional nature lends itself to experimental quantifica...
متن کاملStress Transfer Modeling in CNT Reinforced Composites using Continuum Mechanics (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Because of the substantial difference in stiffness between matrix and nanotube in CNT composite, the stress transfer between them controls their mechanical properties. This paper investigates the said issue, analytically and numerically, in axial load using representative volume element (RVE). The analytical model was established based on the modified Cox’s shear lag model with the use of some ...
متن کاملEffect of inter-laminar fibre orientation on the tensile properties of sisal fibre reinforced polyester composites
In this present work, effects of interlamina fibre orientation on the tensile properties of composites were studied and the results were discussed. The varying types of fibre oriented composites were prepared using the compression moulding technique at a pressure of 17 MPa. The different types of oriented composites investigated were 90o/0 o /90 o, 0 o /90 o /0 o, 90 o /0 o /0 o /90 o, 0 o /45 ...
متن کاملEffect of water absorption on the mechanical properties of hemp fibre reinforced unsaturated polyester composites
Hemp fibre reinforced unsaturated polyester composites (HFRUPE) were subjected to water immersion tests in order to study the effects of water absorption on the mechanical properties. HFRUPE composites specimens containing 0, 0.10, 0.15, 0.21 and 0.26 fibre volume fraction were prepared. Water absorption tests were conducted by immersing specimens in a de-ionised water bath at 25 C and 100 C fo...
متن کاملEffect of Strain Rate on the Tensile Failure of Woven Reinforced Polyester Resin Composites
Tensile stress-strain curves a r e obtained at s t rain rates of %lo-'+, ~ 1 0 and c1000/s for carbon, Kevlar and glass fibre woven-reinforced polyester resin compos i tes and the variation of modulus, tensile strength and fracture strain with strain rate is determined. A change in the failure mode at the highest strain rates is observed for the glass but not the carbon or Kevlar reinforced com...
